Punch Brothers, formed by mandolinist Chris Thile in 2006, push the boundaries of acoustic music. The band includes guitarist Chris Eldridge, bassist Paul Kowert, banjoist Noam Pikelny, and violinist Brittany Haas. They earned critical acclaim throughout their career, including a Grammy for Best Folk Album for All Ashore (2018). The Washington Post praised them for taking “bluegrass to its next evolutionary stage, drawing equal inspiration from the brain and the heart.”
Over two decades, Punch Brothers have become pioneers in modern string music. Albums like Antifogmatic (2010), Who’s Feeling Young Now (2012), and The Phosphorescent Blues (2015) highlight their genre‑defying sound. Rolling Stone described their work as “wild virtuosity used for more than just virtuosity,” reinforcing their reputation as trailblazers. Their most recent album, Hell on Church Street (2021), reimagines and honors Tony Rice’s landmark Church Street Blues.
Punch Brothers have recently poured their energy into the band’s musical variety show, The Energy Curfew Music Hour. Season One streams on all major podcast platforms, while Season Two is available exclusively on Audible. Season One earned a Webby Award nomination in the Podcast: Features, Experimental & Innovation category, and it won three Listener’s Choice honors at the 2025 Signal Awards: Most Innovative Audio Experience, Best Live Podcast Recording, and Best Sound Design.
The band will release The Unsung Adventures of Punch Brothers—their seventh album, their first all‑instrumental project, and their first recording with fiddle player Brittany Haas, who joined in 2023—on July 24, 2026, via Nonesuch Records. The album showcases eight new original compositions and three traditional tunes arranged by the band.
